The Department’s Investigative Services Division is responsible for both the proactive and reactive investigation of crimes against both persons and property. Some of the additional responsibilities of the Division include crime scene processing and evidence collection, background investigations of new police employees and investigations related to Alcoholic Beverage Control and firearms permit applications.

The Investigative Services Division is currently led by Captain Steven Laskiewicz, who has been in law enforcement for over 23 years, 20 of them in Jackson. He served as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the Sayreville Police Department and began his full time law enforcement career with the Monroe Township Police Department in 1996 after graduating from the municipal police class at the New Jersey State Police Academy in Sea Girt. Captain Laskiewicz is a 2016 graduate of the Rutgers University Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Foundation for Executive Leadership course, Antietam Leadership Experience/Staff Ride for Law Enforcement Leaders and has numerous certificates from multiple supervision and leadership courses he has completed during his career.

He is assisted in his supervisory duties by Detective Sergeant Frank Mendez, who has served in law enforcement for over 25 years and came to Jackson in 2001 after previously working with the Borough of Keansburg and Brookdale Community College police departments. The Detective Bureau is currently staffed by seven (7) Detectives who are responsible for conducting general investigations, with one Detective specifically assigned to investigate all matters directly related to the involvement of juvenile offenders. Other Detectives are assigned to handle evidence and identification functions, Megan’s Law registrations, bias crimes, narcotics investigations and sexual assault investigations. All members of the Investigative Services Division remain committed to improving the quality of life for all residents and visitors of Jackson Township and encourage residents to assist when they can in that endeavour.
